1973 was painted to embrace the long history of horse racing, and highlight some of the most iconic Triple Crown winners. The background is made up of past performance sheets of all three of the Triple Crown races over the past winning years. Included in the background PP’s are American Pharoah, Justify, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, and Secretariat. The original day-of program sheets for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont are all included with the winning horses making for a beautifully historic and visually appealing ground. Laid on top of the complex background is a subtly outlined painting of Secretariat wining the 1973 Belmont. The acrylic painting on top of the textured, collage-like ground makes the painting take on a vintage feel with complex depth. The tonal warmth introduces a grounded feel, allowing the piece to read as both art and artifact. In a space, it anchors the room with a strong vertical presence, making it especially effective on structural walls or as a focal point above seating. Its earthy palette integrates seamlessly with natural materials like leather, wood, and stone, while the layered surface adds visual weight and character—bringing a sense of story, texture, and permanence to modern, industrial, and organic interiors.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
