Arizona - Artist Statement
This collection was all about having fun, playing with color, and getting a little outside of my comfort zone. After years away from oil painting, I wanted to revisit the medium and challenge myself to work smaller, move faster, and experiment with colors I don’t typically reach for! I started with twelve 6” x 6” canvases, and a rough idea of subject matter, and let the rest unfold as I went. No strict palette, no big plan — just me and my goal of completing twelve oil paintings with tons of color! love how this collection came together. After working on commissions and show specific pieces for a few months, it was great to let loose and paint with no agenda, just having fun with it! Each piece was made to be it’s own, but when I put them all together, the twelve paintings become one larger 24” x 32” piece that is really striking. Inspired by the shapes, colors, and character of the Southwest, this collection is a little bold, a little unexpected, and full of color — Arizona is a bit different from my usual work, and I think that’s why I love it so much! I hope it speaks to you too and you can picture one of these fun little pieces in your own unique space!
